Our Commitment
Helping UK households cut energy use and carbon emissions is at the heart of what The Gap Project does. We are equally committed to reducing the emissions generated by our own operations and supply chain. We are working to achieve Net Zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050, in line with the UK Government's statutory target.
Baseline Emissions Footprint
Baseline emissions represent a record of the greenhouse gases that have been produced in the past and were produced prior to the introduction of any strategies to reduce emissions. Baseline emissions are the reference point against which emissions reduction can be measured.
| Baseline year | Scope | Source | tCO₂e |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2024 | Scope 1 | Company vehicles, gas heating | 38.4 |
| 2024 | Scope 2 | Purchased electricity (offices) | 9.7 |
| 2024 | Scope 3 | Subcontracted installs, deliveries, business travel, waste | 142.9 |
| Total baseline emissions | 191.0 | ||
Figures are estimates based on operational data and standard UK Government conversion factors. They will be refined as our reporting matures.
Current Emissions Reporting
| Reporting year | Scope | tCO₂e |
|---|---|---|
| 2025 | Scope 1 | 34.1 |
| 2025 | Scope 2 | 5.8 |
| 2025 | Scope 3 | 128.4 |
| Total | 168.3 | |
This represents an estimated ~12% reduction against our 2024 baseline.
Emissions Reduction Targets
In order to continue our progress to achieving Net Zero, we have adopted the following science-aligned targets:
- By 2030: a 50% reduction in Scope 1 and 2 emissions vs 2024 baseline.
- By 2035: a 50% reduction in Scope 3 emissions vs 2024 baseline.
- By 2050: Net Zero emissions across Scopes 1, 2 and 3.
Progress against these targets will be reviewed annually and published in updated versions of this Plan.
Carbon Reduction Projects
The following projects have been completed or are underway across our operations:
Low-carbon fleet transition
We are progressively replacing diesel survey and engineer vehicles with electric or plug-in hybrid alternatives, and installing EV charging at our office locations.
Renewable electricity
Our offices are supplied with electricity from a 100% renewable energy tariff, significantly reducing our market-based Scope 2 emissions.
Smarter route planning
We use route optimisation across our survey and installation network to minimise vehicle miles travelled per job.
Sustainable procurement
We prioritise UK and EU manufacturers, products with longer lifespans, and suppliers who can demonstrate their own credible carbon reduction commitments.
Waste & recycling
Old boilers, copper, cabling and packaging from installations are recovered and recycled through approved waste partners wherever possible.
Customer impact
Most importantly, every solar PV system, heat pump, A-rated boiler, insulation measure and EV charger we install reduces the lifetime carbon footprint of a UK home — typically by several tonnes of CO₂e per property.
Future Projects
- Completing the transition of all owned and leased vehicles to ultra-low or zero-emission models.
- Installing on-site solar PV and battery storage at our office locations.
- Expanding Scope 3 measurement, including embodied carbon in installed products.
- Engaging key suppliers on their own emissions reduction commitments.
- Reviewing high-quality UK-based carbon removal options for residual emissions on the path to Net Zero.
Declaration & Sign Off
This Carbon Reduction Plan has been completed in accordance with PPN 06/21 and associated guidance and reporting standard for Carbon Reduction Plans. Emissions have been reported and recorded in line with the published reporting standard for Carbon Reduction Plans and the GHG Reporting Protocol corporate standard, using the appropriate Government emission conversion factors for greenhouse gas company reporting.
This Carbon Reduction Plan has been reviewed and signed off by the Board of Directors of The Gap Project Limited and will be reviewed and updated annually.
